The first translate-athon was held in Cape Town today. The event was organised by the Western Cape Language Board and hosted by the University of Cape Town. The event formed part of Xhosa awareness week and we hope it will be the first of many such events around the country.

The day was spent translating the OpenOffice.org glossary into Xhosa. Participants included Xhosa lecturers, heads of department, professional translators and students. They had one thing in common ... to see computers in their language.
