Zulu Translate-a-thon held in Durban

Thirty dedicated Zulu speakers from the Durban Institure of Technology gathered together on 5 March 2005 to learn about software translation and to help translate Mozilla Firefox into Zulu. A number of other language speakers were also present. The team was made up of lecturers and students from the Language and Translation Department and the Department of Computer Science.

During the day translators translated:

  • 4000 words of Mozilla Firefox into Zulu
  • 300 words of Firefox in Xhosa
  • 400 words of Pootle in Xhosa
  • 370 words of Pootle in Zulu
  • 500 words of Pootle in Afrikaans
  • 150 words of Pootle in Tswana

Around 5700 words of new translations that will be included in Firefox and Pootle. We hope to release beta versions of Firefox shortly.
