Translating
To help with the translating of software into your language you would need the following:
  • The language that you are translating should be your mother tongue and it is important that:
    • you are confident speaker of this language knowing its spelling and grammar rules
    • you don't mix your languages or know at least which words are Xhosa and are Zulu words.
  • You know a enough about computers so as not to be confused by computer terminology
  • Optional: You work with languages professionally

Our recommendation is that you first begin translating a smaller piece of software or reviewing our current translations for any problems.  To translate online or to report errors that you find please make use of our online translation tool called Pootle

Language Discussion Lists

Each language community has a mailing list on which you can discuss difficult translations and terminology and is a channel through which you can ask what to translate.  Some of these lists are more active then others, if you find yourself on a dead list do not despair.  Rather work hard to recruite others to join you in the effort and begin paving the way to the creation of a vibrant community.

Join the list for your language now: Afrikaans, Ndebele, Northern Sotho, Swati, Sotho, Tswana, TsongaVenda, Xhosa or Zulu.
