Designing

We take most of our work and turn them into products.  This requires a flair for marketing, an eye for design and the ability to extract teeth from dragons (also known as developers).

But seriously, we have found that users have a better perception of a product if it looks good. Sounds obvious of course.  So we therefore do focus on design in our products.  Design covers a number of things:
  • Graphic design
  • Packaging
  • Copyrighting
  • Usability
  • Icon design
  • Font design
We want the user's experience to simply get better with each release of software.  This might be the right thing to do if you are studying design, or if you want to get the name of your small design house out into the market.  We always credit people who work for us - how you use that credit is up to the limits of your imagination.

We have also produced characters for a free font called DejaVu.  We need the help of a good fontographer or some who wants to learn the skill.  Our need is for someone to check our characters in DejaVu, add missing South African glyphs to other free fonts and lastly create implementations of some standard but public domain fonts.  Our dream is that even a Venda speaking granny can create custom birthday cards with a collection of clashing fonts and colours.  No seriously, we want specificlly Venda speakers to have access to a very broad range of fonts so that they can see most styles of documents clearly and without feeling like their fonts are unwanted visitors.
