Free Software may be shared, it should be shared, it must be shared!  Help your family and friends to install our software.  Take that extra time to make sure everything works as expected and give a little guidance.  Done correctly you will have an Open Source fan for life.

Translate.or.za cannot reach all the people that you know.  We don't have a massive marketing budget to tell people about what we do.  But you can do that for us.  If you believe in what we are doing for South African languages, then help us by getting it onto as many computers as possible.

 

But of course we don't mean dump it on someone's computer without their consent (as tempting as that may be).  If someone is not well supported then they will reject the software completely.  Take the time to install it well, to educate the person, to show them how they can do the common tasks that they did on their previous software.  Show them some neat features: like tabbed browsing in Firefox or PDF export in OpenOffice.org.

 

We are convinced that the reason that many people continue to use proprietary software is the following:

Well, we can address a few of these with your help.  By you installing it we eliminate item 1, especially if someone is about to make an expensive software purchase.  Regarding Item 2 - do the support if you can, even if it's thankless.  Item 3 is really just about people using software and your experience is a very good selling point, especially if you are not a geek.
