LISA Cairo: Localisation of FOSS in South Africa

LISA, the Localisation Industry Standards Association, held the Lisa Forum Cairo in Cairo, Eqypt from 5-8 December 2005 (http://www.lisa.org/events/2005cairo/agenda.html).  The title of the conference was 'Localisation: Perspectives from the Middle East and Africa'.

Dwayne was a guest of IDRC and the Pan Africal Localisation project.  He presented two talks, the first on behalf of Translate.org.za, was titled: 'Localisation of FOSS in South Africa' and the second on behalf of WordForge: 'Localisation Framework Project'

LISA is an organisation that represents localisation companies.  During the Q&A sessions it became clear that most people are very unaware of copyright.  One delegate equated the ability to download Microsoft's terminology lists as being the same as free use of the lists and was very unaware of what the copyright terms might be.

The event was a great opportunity to introduce variuous localisation companies to the work for Translate.org.za and for African localisers to network.
